DepicT! Evaluation - Wizardry for Dummies

Wizardry for Dummies

Mise-en-Scene

Our DepicT! entry was set in a Library; we thought this would fit the story well and be a good setting. The only problem with shooting in the library is audio is fairly hard to record, reason being it is either silent, or not fitting. Some comments were made on the quality of our audio but I now know in the future that I should concentrate on the quality rather than leaving it to the final hour.

I think that the setting around the talent was particularly well planned out, the setting of a library really backs this up. There was a comment about the final shot on how the camera moved too fast and the shot had no point; in future I plan on improving my camera maneuvering skill and hope it pays off in my next production.

The background of the scene was fairly natural; people working and reading, generally being normal. This helped focus the audience on the talent.

Camerawork

I think that the camerawork could have used some more attention although the reaction shots and eye-line match were a favourite with the audience and was commented on many times, although the final shot was said to be too fast and it was hard to tell what was going on with the box.

The audience gave some fantastic feedback of which i plan to act upon. People really liked the plan with the final motion shot, it's a shame we couldn't plan extensively otherwise the turnout would be different.

Editing

I think that Mark and I did a great job with the editing. The match on action was said to be great and the shot's didn't seem out of place and were correct lengths. The audience had a lot to say about our editing and most, if not all were positive comments. Mark is a very strong editor and helped me understand the edits from a different point of view; being the headstrong person that I am, I tend to forget about the little things and don't take into account other's opinions, luckily Mark set me straight and we worked fantastic as a team.

Sound

Unfortunately not much attention was payed to the sound department of our production and it showed. The sound didn't fit with the ambient track and the quality was not I hoped it would be. The audience picked the audio issues up fairly quickly and I was not surprised. In the future, I plan on recording on set. to ensure that the audio fits with the production and it sounds as professional as possible.

Overall i'm happy with the feedback i received and hope to further my knowledge and experience in the future.
