Research and Planning: Designing an ESting

I intend to use a mixture of live action animation and claymation in my esting. I think that the two worlds will really add to the piece and allow my to manipulate reality in weird and wonderful ways - Lego is very limited in its movement hence why I've chosen Clay and Live action.

I would have two people in a fighting stance facing each other - one places his hand palm down towards some clay and it gets sucked up to his hand and turns into a fireball; he then fires it towards his enemy how forms an E4 shield and deflects the fireball.

I would have it set in a pretty blank room or even outside, the background isn't really the main feature in this animation.

The only thing I can see that will hinder my progress is the amount of clay that I'll need - Making a shield (type thing) out of clay is a difficult task. Other than that, I feel that the filming and animation will go smoothly.

The target audience for my Esting is a younger age. I intend to have the animation set on a desk and make it seem as if the desk is coming to life - In that case I think that this is for a younger audience/teenage audience.

This is my character after I had created him. This is the main character in my animation and will be the one firing the fireball thus creating an E4 logo. I created the character using Plastercine and did not use a wire skeleton to give him support as I felt that he was stable enough to move and stand on his own.

This is the set that I will be using in my animation. The set adds to the feel that I want for the animation. I marked the objects with masking tape to ensure that if they were moved during animation, I could put them back without disturbing the shot.

My risk assessment and storyboard are in the following images.

The storyboard shows that a "Wizard" will enter frame and summon a fireball.

The Wizard then throws the fireball into an object or a wall...

And Finally, the fireball impacts on the object/wall and will magically form into an E4 logo!

I wont be using many props in my animation, It'll be a fairly simple animation.

- Stapler
- Hole Punch
- Pen Pot - filled with various pens
- Plastercine for character and fireball/logo
- A table to hold my set

  1. Jack,

The pre-production documentation is missing - upload this ASAP.

Also, you prop list is written in past tense - this is a planning post..!!

  2. Paired with the research post this is now a merit.
